The Youth Summer Program!
Ability 1st Utah’s Youth Summer Program is for young adults that are the ages 17-30 and who do not require a greater than 5 to 1 student to staff ratio. This program will focus on all aspects of independent living including job skills. Our goal is to teach our youth on how to live a successful independent life in an interactive and fun learning environment.
Ability 1st Utah’s Youth Summer Program is a learning environment, while there will be fun outings that we provide, we will focus on teaching our attendants how to be an effective self-advocate and how to live a successful independent life, so not everyday will be a fun outing. We have various ages and functioning levels that we will do our best to accommodate in all of our activities. In some activities we will split our peers into small groups, it is possible that we will separate friends in order for them to learn new social skills and meet new people. We do this to help our youth grow and adapt to new things that may be uncomfortable at first.
Youth Summer Program Dates: The summer program will start on June 3rd and will end on August 14th. The Youth Summer Program will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and some Saturdays. The Youth Program Participants will also be hosting and or performing in their own Talent Show as well. Anyone is welcome to attend.
For us to focus on social, creativity and job skills, the youth at the Summer Program will be making crafts throughout the program, to be able to participate in fundraising at the Provo Farmers Market. Five participants from the Youth Summer Program will be asked to volunteer each week at the Farmer’s Markets. Participants will be expecting to rotate at the Provo Farmers Market each week, so that everybody gets a chance to be included.
Notice: Each Summer Program Participant will be asked to provide their own transportation to and from the Farmer’s Market. If transportation is needed, we strongly advise you to use self-advocacy strategies to work together to carpool or find your own transportation. Brandon and Meagan will do their best to help provide strategies in finding transportation to and from the Farmer’s Market. However, it will be your responsability to proivde your own transportation on Saturdays.
Ability 1st Utah is planning to take a limited amount of participants camping from July 15th to July 17th. If you are interested in participating, it is a first come first serve on sign-ups. Once you have been selected, you will receive more information (sign-ups, packing list, planned activities, time frame, etc…) as we get closer to the date.
The Center will be closed on Friday July 4th and Thursday July 24th for the holidays.
The cost for the Youth Summer Program is $50.00. This is a donation towards our company, that will assist with the cost of activities and classes. Nobody will be turned away for inability to pay.
