Equipment Loan Bank

Ability 1st Utah offers the free use of durable medical equipment (DME) for our consumers on a temporary basis until permanent equipment can be acquired. Most of the equipment in our loan bank has been donated to our center, which means that some of the equipment is gently used. Other devices are newly purchased from center resources. All of these devices are available to eligible consumers at no cost to them.

Our loan bank includes a variety of assistive equipment, such as manual wheelchairs, power chairs, scooters, walkers, shower benches, and commodes. Availability of DME items is dependent on the types of items donated to Ability 1st Utah.

Device Loan Period

DME loans are initially made for a 90-day period. Extensions can be granted if necessary, provided there are no other requests for the same device.

Some personal self-care equipment, such as commodes, shower chairs, and toilet seats, cannot be returned to Ability 1st once used due to sanitation concerns. Consumers are able to keep these items indefinitely at no cost.

How can I request equipment?

Those interested in borrowing a device must begin the process by meeting with an independent living specialist. During this initial intake assessment, they will complete all the required paperwork.

Equipment can be picked up at the center or delivered to your home.

If you are interested in borrowing from or donating to DME from Ability 1st Utah’s equipment loan bank, please contact our equipment manager listed below.
